The Stompers

When your undercarriage is only 6 inches from the ground, the heat from the pavement and sidewalks is amplified. I have to be very aware of the temperatures when I walk Lucy and Olive because they are very active walkers who will overheat easily if I'm not observant. Yesterday was such a day. It was warm, but not too warm…unless you're a Corgi. The pavement and the sidewalks added 10° to the temperature making it nearly 85° on their little bellies. I knew they were getting warm, so we decided to go stomping in the stream.

We spent a good 20 minutes playing in the water and we all got wet and muddy. It was great! Our return walk to their home was very pleasant as the girls perked up after cooling off in the stream.

Mud covered, wet and happy, the girls and I made our way back home, enjoying the shady spots along the way.

Why do I call these two adventurous corgis “Stompers”? They literally stomp through anything.

Olive seems particularly happy when she stomps through puddles, especially if they are muddy. She will proudly show me her mud covered paws when she emerges from the puddle, with a grin on her face.

Lucy loves to stomp as well, through everything. Puddles, tall grass, flowers, you name it and she stomps through it. She has confidence and a bit of attitude that make her a very fun dog to walk.

The Stompers are fearless and love everybody. They approach humans and dogs alike, asking for pets and play time. Because they are my charges and not my own dogs, rarely do I allow them to interact with others, unless I know that the dogs are already friends with them.

I am lucky enough to spend three days a week with them and look forward to our time together.
