Hot Dog
Yesterday it reached 87° while Oliver and I were out for our walk. The sun had murderous intentions and we both felt it.
We usually walk for an hour, all the way around Martha Lake. It’s a great walk, but yesterday it was uncomfortable. 🥵 It's too early for this kind of heat and neither Oliver nor I were prepared for it.
We got half way through our walk and I was getting light headed and dizzy. I was too hot. I'm sensitive to heat, having suffered heat stroke several times in Michigan, so I knew we needed to cool down, and fast.
We went to the boat launch, which was empty, and Oliver jumped right in. He loves swimming and the was his first dip this year.
The water could not have been more inviting. Oliver stood in it for a while as I got my arms, my neck and my face wet. It was such a relief.
Once I felt better Oliver wanted to play, so I tossed some sticks for him as he swam and played in the water. He let me know when he was finished and we headed off to finish our walk.
When we got back, Oliver ate his lunch and got a big drink of water. He was ready for a nice, long nap and no worse for the wear.
After a bottle of Gatorade and some air conditioning in my car, I recovered well and headed off to my next walk.
I'm happy to report that today I woke up to the soft pattering of rain on the roof and much cooler temperatures.
I guess I have finally become a true PNW’er. 🌧️
